![]() ![]() That out of the way, how exactly do you customize a template/title/text? So, honestly, I’m trying to help here, but if you can remember that text, titles, and templates are all really the same thing you’ll be fine… And I think of iMovie’s Titles as more like templates because each one is so customizable. Sorry for any confusion, but I think of titles as a special kind of text – the dramatic text that opens a movie. Speaking of jargon, Apple calls these text effects Titles, but I have been calling them templates. In editing jargon, this box is called the Text Effect because it is an effect that changes the appearance of any video below it, and in this case, the effect is to add some text. The template is now represented by the narrow purplish box just to the right of the green arrow. Then I dragged it onto my timeline, dropping it where the green arrow is pointing in the screenshot above. In the screenshot below I have clicked on the “Pop-up” template (highlighted by the red arrow), which turns its border yellow. We’ll talk more below about what kind of templates might work best in different situations, but when you’ve found the one you want, simply drag it onto your timeline wherever you want your text to start. This is particularly helpful for animated templates – where the text animates onto or off the screen. You can preview any template by slowly dragging your pointer across the thumbnail. There are over 50 of them, so keep scrolling! Note that you can scroll up and down in the Media Browser to see more templates. So regardless of what kind of text you might want to add to your movie, you start with the Titles tab in the Media Browser.Īfter clicking the Titles tab (highlighted by the red arrow in the screenshot below), you will see a series of thumbnails (inside the dotted red line in the screenshot below), each representing a different title template. ![]() IMovie considers all text a type of title. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() NASA’s ambitions for the vehicle were largely inflated by a desire to achieve great things but also preserve a sense of enthusiasm for spaceflight mined over a decade earlier. The legacy of the Space Shuttle program was to some degree built around the results of its very first mission. Sadly, not every problem seen on the first mission would ever be solved entirely, making the risks of the system deeply disconcerting to many but never forcing a full cancelation of the program before it completed a variety of scientific and technical goals. Other damage over the two-day mission, approximately 70 problems both foreseen and underestimated in potential effect by engineers, meant Columbia required numerous repairs before the next planned mission could launch and prove the reusability of the orbiter. Despite those positives, STS-1 also indicated the troubles ahead: Crippen noticed foam loss from the external tank during launch and missing thermal tiles, both of which contributed to the loss of Columbia and her crew during STS-107 in 2003. The middeck offered plenty of storage and space for sleeping, but the space only reached its full intended potential on later missions as science experiments and crewmembers were added. The flight deck included aircraft-like seats for them both with windows forward, overhead, and into the payload bay to make visual observations. Young and Crippen had room to spare in the spacious crew compartment. As the first of several test flights for the shuttle, STS-1 offered NASA a preview of the program in terms of successes and difficulties. They were not the path to develop lasting in-space capabilities for humans. After 20 years, rockets and spacecraft were viewed by many as expensive, disposable, and lacking the capacity for real science and technology research. But the Space Shuttle program was on an entirely different technological level from Gagarin’s single orbit in a tiny capsule. ![]() STS-1 followed in the footsteps of another first in spaceflight, launching on the 20th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s mission that made him the first human to fly in space. This was truly a new beginning for spaceflight and NASA, with the realization of a decades-old dream of a reusable spaceplane that could deploy large objects from a payload bay, serve as a scientific base for orbital research, and open up space to new professionals and industries interested in the unique offerings of low-Earth orbit for science and technology.Ĭolumbia situated on the launch pad for STS-1 (NASA Photo, S81-29212). The delays and concerns meant that the first launch would be the first full test of the Space Transportation System, the completely assembled unit of solid rocket boosters, external tank, and orbiter. Commanded by space veteran and moonwalker John Young and piloted by Robert Crippen, the launch slipped two years from its originally scheduled launch in 1979 because of problems with its powerful engines and the fragile thermal protection system. The reusable spaceplane, the Space Shuttle, ushered in a new era of human spaceflight 40 years ago this week with the launch of STS-1 on April 12, 1981. VCI is also used for the WISC as a measure of crystallized knowledge. Since our knowledge of vocabulary, facts, and relationships between words is acquired, the VCI is considered a measure of crystallized knowledge. For the WAIS, the VCI is calculated based on scores of tests dealing with verbal knowledge. ![]() One of the scales that factors into the Full Scale IQ of the Wechsler tests is the Verbal Comprehension Index (VCI). These could be historical facts, such as remembering Columbus arrived in America in 1492, or scientific facts, like water freezing at 0 degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit. ![]() It can be cultivated at school, work, the media, or just the everyday environment you live in. Think of all of the facts you know as a result of your experience and education. This type of intelligence is based on knowledge that is acquired or learned. Many people have likely heard the term but don’t know the definition of crystallized intelligence. The Wechsler scales, however, also recognize that speed of processing and working memory are factors of general intelligence and is reflected in the Full Scale IQ of the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale ( WAIS) and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children ( WISC). The concept of generalized intelligence as a combination of crystallized and fluid intelligence is represented as the General Ability Index on Wechsler tests of intelligence. Between fluid intelligence and crystallized intelligence, these were thought to represent the average level of all different types of intelligence an individual has. These two concepts together formed what was known as general intelligence, and was first proposed by psychologist Raymond Cattell. While we have all heard the terms book smart, street smart, or social intelligence, tests of intelligence were developed with two types of intelligence in mind: crystallized and fluid intellect. Intelligence has been defined in many different ways. ![]() ![]() ![]() It makes it easy to play alongside other music applications like Reason, Serato and an ever-growing number of iOS apps and Link-integrated hardware.Įven more imaginative ways to connect and customize are made possible through Max for Live, which brings the Max programming environment directly inside of Live. Interestingly, he uses the Dynamic Island feature as the reason I was looking for in order to take the plunge. Sounds very reasonable and certainly similar to the reasons I wanted to try the Pro Max this year. The regular 14 Pro will likely have great endurance, but I want to make sure I’ve got as much battery as possible.” I’m doing more traveling than I was last year, and I’d like to limit my reliance on battery packs as much as possible when I’m out and about. The longer battery life is an obvious but important perk. It’s great knowing I can fit it in any pocket and use it fairly easily with one hand, but it now feels really limiting if I’m watching a YouTube video or following a Fitness+ workout. “I’ve been on the normal Pro model since the XS, and the 6.1-inch screen has started to feel pretty cramped - especially when I’m reviewing much larger Android phones throughout the year. “There are the usual benefits of going Pro Max - bigger screen and longer battery,” he said. He’s upgraded from an iPhone 13 Pro to an iPhone 14 Pro Max, so I asked him why. However, Digital Trends’ Mobile Editor Joe Maring did the opposite. Of course, this is just how I made my decision, and luckily my lifestyle still suits the smaller iPhone 14 Pro. But without it, it was impossible to justify living with the extra cost and additional weight. If this had continued, I have the feeling my pre-pre-order basket ahead of launch would have contained an iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple knows what it’s doing, and it clearly wasn’t worth differentiating the two drastically, as it had done with the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, where the larger phone’s camera had some additional features. It’s not just a bigger version of the S22 Ultra, but it’s easy to look at the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max that way.īut that extra just isn’t there. ![]() Rightly or wrongly, I perceive Samsung’s folding phone as being worth the money. What I needed at this stage was that famous Apple “one more thing.” That little bit extra to make the iPhone 14 Pro Max worth spending close to what I did for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. Big money for a bit bigger screen and battery, and many extra grams of weight. The 256GB iPhone 14 Pro is an already very expensive 1,209 British pounds, and then you add an extra 100 pounds to get the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which converts over to be around $1,516. Except I live in the U.K., where the iPhone 14 prices are steep. I need the 256GB version of the iPhone, so at the minimum, I’d be spending $1,099 - or adding an extra $100 to get the iPhone 14 Pro Max. ![]() This flexibility is the same reason I’ll stomach the $1,699 price. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is only 23 grams heavier, yet it’s a trade-off I’m willing to make considering it folds and has two screens, one of which is 7.6-inches. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is 240 grams, and that’s a lot. I wanted to do it, but that something extra just isn’t there to push me past two very unpleasant numbers that eventually put me off: weight and price. Ultimately, it’s an iPhone 14 Pro listed in the email from Apple confirming my pre-order, not the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Sure, the Pro Max’s bigger battery will last longer, but I never thought the additional few hours would make that much difference day-to-day. The iPhone 13 Pro has actually been great as long as you don’t use Apple or Google Maps for hours and easily lasts me for a full day out-and-about. I’ve not struggled with the battery life either. Why? I was traveling more at the time, and lugging the massive iPhone 8 Plus around had been a pain. The iPhone X solved that dilemma, and I’ve lived happily with the smaller phone since. The smaller screens on the “normal” iPhone were more cramped and less enjoyable to use. The draw of the larger screen was considerable, but looking back, it was mostly because a lot of the front was taken up by bezels. I always went for the Plus model of each iPhone, up to and including the iPhone 8 Plus. ![]() First, some history before getting into those problematic numbers. ![]() ![]() We hope to bring you further news and updates about the merge soon.įor further support and resources, please click here.
